Bluefish bite4/28/2023 Anglers have also been seeking some of the nice Speckled Trout inside the inlet as well using gulps on a light jig head. The Bluefish have been biting on top water artificial baits, like MirroLures. Well, not what we left the dock for, but got our one fish for the table. The WaveRunner fished inside Rudee Inlet recently and their crew, made up of a bachelor party had a great time catching some Bluefish. Made one last attempt at the BFT grounds late in the afternoon, but with the winds kicking up quickly, we ran home at 530pm getting somewhat of an ars kicking the entire 50mi with 15-20 South winds and tight chop. Saw at least 10 whales, tons of slicks, hundreds of Porpoise, turtles, and loads of bait. Had to troll the deep for a while as the Hudson was absolutely full of life. Worked the area for another hour or so before running to the edge and making a few drops for tiles. Wwwb Sterling Green Machine bar got knocked down and we quickly landed a nice 45# yft. We put the spread out about 10miles short of the edge following the pod. On the way, we ran into a huge pod of porpoise and Karl decided it was too good to pass up. Headed off to the Tip to drop for some tiles. After weaving through wakes, washes, and spreads of the fleet we decided to change the scenery. Well, it only took about 30 seconds for the entire (I mean ENTIRE) fleet of 40 boats to have their bows pointed at the same spot. Their razor teeth, meant for shredding prey, can also shred standard leader material. We worked our way over and strangely heard actual GPS numbers of the said location broadcasted over ch 65. Never underestimate the importance of bite guards with bluefish. Things were promising as a fellow boat nearby was all alone off our bow and just boated a nice fish. Anything that even resembled a ballyhoo was crushed instantly and when we went to all plastics, then single lures were attacked. Trolled until 11am continuing to get covered in bluefish doing a number on our gear. Once the fleet arrived we tried to find our own water putting a mile between us and the fleet as best as we could. Covered up in demons! One rod had a small football BFT which was released boatside. (while getting 1.7mpg! :bow Had the place to ourselves for about an hour and our first knockdowns came early with 5 of 7 rods going off. ![]() Ran 38knts from Sandy Hook on Karl's rocket ship of a 30t and had lines in before 6. Buddied up with Basspond and Chompers and left Rumson around 3:45am. ![]() After a late night change of plans of heading south, I jumped on with Karl and crew to hit the BFT grounds Tues am.
